FAQs
What makes Treveth’s homes different?
Treveth’s objective is to improve the quality of new homes in Cornwall, especially in the private rented market. Our homes exceed current minimum space standards, across all tenures, and are designed to help reduce the running costs for occupants through the use of low carbon technologies including solar panels and sustainable energy solutions.
I’m interested in renting a property. What’s the first step?
Thank you for considering renting a new home from Treveth. Firstly, visit the web page of the development you are interested in and use the contact details to register your interest. Our rental properties are in high demand, so we recommend registering your interest as soon as possible. Even if our properties aren’t quite ready, register your details anyway as you will be added to our mailing list and will be the first to know when these new homes are available to rent. Perran Housing or the letting agent will then be in contact to progress your application.
Why does Treveth offer three-year tenancies as standard?
Cornwall has a big problem with seasonality of the private rented market which results in short termtenancies, large fluctuations in rent payable between summer and off-season all of which has an impact on occupier stability. This makes it difficult for people to put down roots in their communities if they can only occupy a property for six months.
Treveth homes rental properties have leases that last three years, and if you want to renew at the end of that period then you will be given every opportunity to do so. This allows individuals and families to grow in the communities they live in.
What is a guarantor and why do I need one?
A guarantor is important as they can support the tenant if the tenant fails to pay the rent. Usually a parent or guardian, the guarantor agrees to take joint responsibility and is required to pay rental fees if the tenant fails to do so or pay for any damages.
Who manages your open market rental homes?
We always use local letting agencies who know the area well to manage our open market rental homes. Each development may have a different letting agency which is responsible for managing these homes. Please visit the development page you are interested in to find the contact details of individual letting agencies.
How energy-efficient are your new build homes?
Treveth is taking a lead on bringing sustainable new build homes to Cornwall, for Cornish people. All our homes have an EPC rating of C or above, and where possible, we strive to achieve an A rating. Air source heat pumps and solar panels in some of our homes ensure that residents benefit from reduced running costs, allowing you to live a low carbon lifestyle with little effort.
Take a moment to check out our Tolgus site, Gwel Basset, as an example. This 185-home scheme is a market leading low carbon estate housing scheme with homes featuring air source heat pumps and solar panels as standard. Homes at Gwel Basset use up to 73% less energy a year compared to an average three bedroom house in the UK. All subsequent schemes are following this lead.
